Crisis strikes. Family issues. You need to move or you need a place to put some things, and you need it NOW.
It sounds like a brutal scenario, but that doesn’t mean it can’t happen. Whatever the reason, suddenly having to move can throw your life into disarray. However, if you take certain measures, you can ease the stress just a bit and help you focus on the important things of the moment.
-Take inventory: You might have to be hasty with this, but marking what’s truly important and what isn’t can make the process easier. If you toss a few things instead of moving them it can make the process simpler.
-Temporary storage: if you have extra stuff that you can’t move but still need, storage units provide a nice temporary solution. Climate controlled units are perfect for items you don’t want subjected to swings in temperature, such as artwork and electronics.
-Transport: If you don’t have a vehicle fit for moving items, you can run into issues. It’s even tough to find a friend that has something big enough to use for a move. Rental trucks are usually an affordable option that will reduce the number of trips you have to make. Uncle Bob’s rents moving trucks free with a storage rental.
-24/7 Access: In a time of transition or sudden displacement, you’re going to need to operate outside of normal business hours. Many storage facilities offer 24/7 access to storage units with a gate code. You can make the process work on your schedule.
-Boxes: For the typical household move, you’re going to need a lot of them. Finding them on short notice is always tricky. Be sure to test boxes for stability, they’re the only thing separating your belongings from damage. You can buy moving boxes and moving supplies at your local storage facility.
So we hope you never have to go through an unexpected transition, but if you do we hope it goes as smoothly as possible. If you think of any tips to add on what to do with your belongings in an emergency, leave them in the comments.
